Master of the Mountain Master of the Mountain by Cherise Sinclair
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Dark Divas Review of this title:

Rebecca has set her whole life based upon the expectations of others and society. She has even made a list of the characteristics she needs to find in a husband, and she actually found someone that meets those requirements. There’s a problem though, her boyfriend wants her to take part in a swinger’s weekend to open up their sex life and to broaden her horizons in the bedroom. Rebecca agrees to give it a try and sets off with her boyfriend to a mountain lodge reserved exclusively for the swinging group’s weekend adventures. She quickly learns the lifestyle that this group enjoys is not for her, but that new knowledge leaves her out in the cold, literally. Logan is the owner of the lodge and the wonderful hero of our story. He finds Rebecca and brings her inside. Rebecca soon learns that while she doesn’t enjoy swinging, she is undeniably submissive. That works well for Logan who has been in the BDSM lifestyle for years as a Dominant. Logan takes Rebecca on a submissive journey showing her all the possibilities that there are in the lifestyle. What he doesn’t realize is that she is taking him on a journey of his own.

As with all the best heroes, Logan is stubborn and steadfast in his belief that he is protecting Rebecca by letting her go. By the time he figures out his error, Rebecca has moved and left no forwarding address. I loved Logan for all that he did to make Rebecca understand how desirable she was to him and to others, and Rebecca for all that she did to make Logan understand how necessary and loved he was in her life. The scenes throughout this book were vivid and you felt as if you were there with the characters, experiencing what they were experiencing right along with them. Cherise Sinclair did an excellent job writing these characters so that you could relate to both of them on some level. You could feel Rebecca and Logan’s anxiety, passion, understanding, anger, and love throughout the scenes of this book. And just in case you were wondering, the sex scenes were melt-your-socks-off hot. I definitely recommend this book. It’s intense enough for anyone well versed in the genre of BDSM to absolutely enjoy it from beginning to end, and at the same time people new to the genre will feel at home with Rebecca. You can walk right along with her on her journey. I honestly can’t wait to see if Ms. Sinclair has Logan’s brother on tap for her next book. I, for one, sincerely hope so.

Review: The Starlight Rite

The Starlight RiteThe Starlight Rite by Cherise Sinclair
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Dark Divas Review of this book:

I’ll start by saying that I absolutely adore Cherise Sinclair’s work. That being said, I almost never like any sci-fi story and add in futuristic and I bet I won’t even read the summary much less the excerpt. The sole reason I did either of those things was because of the author’s name on the book and even that made me hesitant to grab a sci-fi title.

I am SO glad I picked up The Starlight Rite though. It’s excellent. It’s edge of your seat suspense. It has a raw sexuality and sensuality that shouldn’t be missed. The plotline is superb. I was completely drawn into Dain and Mella’s existence. The worlds of Nexus and Earth made sense and paralleled a reality that wasn’t hard to comprehend and become involved in.
The suspense was first rate, and not just the suspense of the monster and Mella, but the suspense of what would happen between Dain and Mella. This story had me turning pages with great anticipation of what would happen next.

Cherise Sinclair has done it again. She’s also opened my eyes to a very excellent sci-fi/futuristic story when I wondered if any actually existed.

If you haven’t read a Cherise Sinclair book, you should certainly pick one up. Apparently, no matter the genre, you just can’t go wrong.

Blurb:  John, Marcus and Ian were best friends, the three of them inseparable even when John and Marcus committed as life partners. When John dies, he leaves Marcus and Ian to depend upon one another for comfort. Despite Ian’s support, Marcus’s guilt and sorrow are eating away at him, and he’s blind to the love standing right in front of him… until Ian makes a decision to help him face the past and plan for the future.

Excerpt
IAN was having a wonderful time with Marcus as they sat in the back of their favorite pub, listening to a live band. They hadn’t had this much fun in quite a while—not at all since John passed away. John, Marcus, and Ian. Most people had called them the three musketeers because they were always together. John and Marcus were in a committed relationship, but they all three loved each other and would have done anything for each other. When John first got sick, they rallied together in love, friendship, and caring, but the brain tumor was too far along, and there wasn’t anything to be done. Ian thought watching a best friend die was one of the worst things that could happen to a person.

Ian looked over at Marcus and knew it had been even harder on him. John was the love of his life, and they had been inseparable. Ian loved Marcus so much, and he wanted to find a way to help him move on with his life, to find love and happiness. Marcus seemed to be doing a lot better recently. It had only been nine months, but they’d had time to come to terms with losing John before he was actually gone.

Ian knew he and Marcus had feelings for one another, but he didn’t want to push before Marcus was ready to move forward with something more intimate. Their friendship was worth so much more than the risk of never being a couple. He gave Marcus space and was there for him, waiting for a time that was appropriate to confess his deeper emotions to the man he loved.

Tonight appeared to be the night. They were both relaxed and having an excellent time. The music and atmosphere of their favorite pub, along with the laughter, was something they had missed for a very long time.

They sat in a back booth of the bar so that the music from the live band wasn’t too loud to have a conversation. Shrouded in shadows, Ian really looked at his friend. They’d known each other for more than ten years, and Marcus looked just as good as the day they met. He was just over six feet tall with broad shoulders, sandy blond hair, and soulful brown eyes that always had people swooning. However, he was completely oblivious to the attention that he received.

Smiling, Ian leaned over to Marcus and placed a hand on his leg. “You ready to go home, baby?” he asked, allowing his eyes to show all his love and desire.

Marcus stared at him for a few seconds, recognition crossing his features. Ian leaned in for a kiss, allowing Marcus to make the choice. There would be no pressure tonight, no demands, only love and affection freely given. If Marcus wanted that, it was his for the taking. Marcus smiled and leaned into the kiss that was offered.

Ian placed his other hand on Marcus’s cheek, holding him for the kiss. A gentle coaxing of his lips had Marcus opening to him with a moan. Ian took full advantage of what he was offered. They explored each other until Ian pulled himself away with a deep-throated groan. With his hand still on Marcus’s thigh, he looked down and said, “I really think we should take this home, baby. I want you so badly, but is it what you want? There’s no pressure here, only time.”

Answering without words, Marcus leaned in and grabbed Ian’s face. He pulled him down for a passionate kiss that had Ian panting for air by the time Marcus released him.

“That should answer your question, Ian.” Marcus laughed at the shocked expression on Ian’s face and leaned in to kiss him again. Ian tried desperately to hide the overwhelming hope and fear swirling through him. He was afraid that Marcus was not ready, and they were harming their long-standing friendship. At the same time, the heat of Marcus’s kiss seared through him, making him want so much more.

Ian held him back with a palm to his chest. “Come on. Let’s get out of here before we get arrested for what I want to do next.”

Marcus laughed, drew Ian out of the booth, and started for the exit.

I really hope you all enjoy the excerpt — leave a comment and tell me what you think!

Welcome to my very first blog! I am a writer (and that still feels weird to say)  and this is where I will talk about all the things that are going on with my new career. I just signed a contract with Dreamspinner Press for publication of my very first short story. I can’t wait to see it published.

It’s a holiday themed contemporary m/m story and will be published sometime the month of December, 2009.

Stay tuned for more information on this coming release and other tidbits that I have to share along the way.
